Wedding rings & engagement rings
are symbols of unity.

Wedding rings symbolize circles of perfection, unity with no beginning and no end.

Wedding rings and engagement rings are traditionally worn on the third finger of the left hand because it was believed that the left hand had a special vein, "the vein of love", that ran directly to the wearers heart. What a romantic custom!

The wearing of wedding rings or engagement rings did not become customary until Roman times. Engagement rings did not exist until the 13th century when Pope Innocent III declared that a waiting period should precede the actual wedding ceremony. Therefore, today we have one ring for the engagement which is usually a diamond solitaire and one ring for the wedding which is usually some type of gold band.

In most recent years, we have even incorporated yet a third ring into the mix.

These rings are called "promise rings" which are
basically pre-engagement rings.

In the past few years it has become common for the bride and groom to both exchange rings. It is said that the cost of the ring should be what the groom makes in a three month period. This writer believes that this statement is a myth and should not be taken to heart.

In fact, there are many beautiful cubic zirconia diamonds that absolutely can not be detected as "faux" unless closely inspected by a jeweler. The ring is an expression of your love and you can not put a price tag on that!

The following is a selected vow from the book "Wedding Vows" by Peg Kehret. You might say when exchanging rings with your beloved. "I have for you a golden ring. This most precious metal symbolizes that your love is the most precious element in my life.

The ring has no beginning or end, which symbolizes that the love between us will never cease. As I place it on your finger, I give you all that I am and ever hope to be."
