Sunny & Affordable, Citrine is the official birthstone for the month of November! Citrine Gemstones-Citrine Birthstones

Sunny & Affordable, Citrine is the official birthstone
for the month of November!

Citrine is sometimes erroneously referred to as topaz quartz. This name was used in the past in reference to the color, which is sometimes similar to the color of topaz.

Since topaz is a separate mineral, this type of name can be confusing and should not be used. Citrine includes many colors including yellow, gold and orange brown shades of transparent quartz.

Citrine is one of the most affordable gemstones, thanks to the durability and availability of this golden quartz. Its name is derived from the French word for lemon, which is "citron". Many citrines have a very nice lemony color. The darker, orange colors sometimes called Madeira citrine have been the most valued color. However, many people prefer the bright lemony shades.

Choosing a Citrine:

Citrine is generally inexpensive and is also available in a wide range of sizes and shapes. Because of its availability and cost, very large sizes of this gemstone can be purchased for a fraction of the price of other gemstones. Citrine goes fabulously with the colors of your fall wardrobe.

Citrine it is sometimes confused with the more expensive orange-yellow topaz and is at times sold as topaz by unscrupulous dealers. The practice has caused many potential citrine buyers to be suspect of citrine and fear it may be a fake topaz. Citrine ranks a 7.0 on the Mohs scale of hardness, which means it's very durable.

Lore and legend of the Citrine include beliefs that it helps the heart, kidney, digestive tract, liver and muscles. It allegedly promotes creativity, helps personal clarity and eliminates self-destructive tendencies. It is also the Planetary stone for the Sun Sign of Virgo and the accepted gem for the 13th and 17th wedding anniversary.
